Y'all people really don’t get it: the point is to not consider being racist an insult. It’s factual that there are race biases ingrained into people’s minds and the first step to eradicate them is to accept it. Saying she’s being racist further proves that you didn’t understand a damn thing. Every white American is “racist”, as in they have been raised with racist concepts; black people have been raised with the same concepts, except they either refuse them or internalize it. As Bob said, white people don’t have an history of being killed and hanged and enslaved for being black. And they will NEVER understand that. While black people still have, to this day, to fear some parts of the USA for the forementioned motives.
“…last
year this photograph of children looking at their smartphones by Rembrandt’s ‘The
Night Watch’ in the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam
[went viral.] It was often accompanied by outraged, dispirited comments such as
“a perfect metaphor for our age,” “the end of civilization” or “a sad picture of
our society”.
…It turns out that the
Rijksmuseum has an app that, among other
things, contains guided tours and further information about the works on display.
As part of their visit to the museum, the children, who minutes earlier had admired
the art and listened attentively to explanations by expert adults, had been instructed
to complete an assignment by their school teachers, using, among other things, the
museum’s excellent smartphone app….
The tragic thing is that this — the truth — will
never go viral. So, I wonder, what is more likely to bring about the death of civilization,
children using smartphones to learn about art or the willful ignorance of adults
who are too quick to make assumptions?” José Picardo, Medium
I have a family friend who worked at our local Salvation Army headquarters as a a secretary. This particular office took all the Christmas donations for children in need, put them in a warehouse, and on a designated day the staff and their friends picked through them all, taking whatever they wanted. She saw people hauling away bikes donated for specific families. Some local children had hundreds of dollars of gifts donated in their name, and on Christmas they received three cheap things, items likely not even from the person who sponsored them.
My friend quit, and I’ve not given them a dime of my money since then.
there’s a big difference between “food waste” as in “farmers destroy tons of food to avoid exceeding quotas” or “supermarkets throw away this much edible food because it doesn’t sell”
and “food waste” as in “it is not actually within the capacity of humans to perfectly predict and track household food consumption, so a certain amount of food per household inevitably goes bad and has to be thrown out every year”
the idea that food waste is the product of thoughtless consumers rather than corporate greed is really insidious
